2012 & Al Gore's Limited Vision

What is missing from so much of the 2012 chatter is an understanding of the big picture the larger cycles of galactic life, not just our decade to century views: if that much. The global warming that Al Gore has recently discovered, if anything, is about to come to an end.  And the December 21, 2012 date is more fixed in the larger cycles of life than we know.  

There's more real factual evidence for galactic warming than global warming. The solar system is heating up as a result of things going on in our Milky Way galaxy. And if we step back and take a look at scientific data within the whole of history, we see something entirely different than the hyper global warming scenario of Al Gore and others.

Can you say goodbye Holocene era?

The Holocene era was-is a warm period that began at the end of the ice age about 11,000-12,000 years ago. There have been small-scale climate shifts, notably the "Little Ice Age" between about 1200 and 1700CE, but in general, the Holocene has been a relatively warm period in between ice ages.

But, the earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age, according to a large and compelling body of evidence from within the field of climate science. Many sources of data which provide our knowledge base of long-term climate change indicate that the warm, twelve thousand year-long Holocene period will rather soon be coming to an end, and then the earth will return to Ice Age conditions for the next 100,000 years.

Can you say Milankovitch eccentricity cycle?

Ice cores, ocean sediment cores, the geologic record, and studies of ancient plant and animal populations all demonstrate a regular cyclic pattern of Ice Age glacial maximums which each last about 100,000 years, separated by intervening warm interglacials, each lasting about 12,000 years. But who looks at such long cycles: certainly not Al Gore.

Facts aside, the question that comes to mind is this. Is there something, an "event" that will thrust us into the next ice age? Maybe something around the year 2012?  :-)
