2012 Schizophrenia

There are those that think 2012 is a bunch of hype (as the survey on this web page indicates), but more than 60% of the responders give some credibility to the issue. Of those that have some level of feeling that 2012 is not going to be just another normal year, the group is split. Some think something BAD is going to happen while others think that something wonderful is on the horizon. Such schizophrenia is causing some interesting discussions.

The debate reminds me of the major divide among the scientific community and the religious groupings over the theory of evolution.

We have been a society that set up a schizophrenic situation where kids were taught the theory of evolution in school during the week and then they were taught creationism on Sunday from the church. But here's the real question is either theory correct? I am doubtful. I can take bits and pieces from each theory and weave it into new found scientific evidence and come up with a third option.

That there is a grand Designer who designed the universe? How can one look at the world and think it came about from chance? That there is a case for the evolution of various species and the world, who can scientifically refute it. But, that there are lapses in the theory of evolution, only a person of great bias can uphold such a thesis. Cycles have been greatly interrupted by events from within (volcanoes) and from without (meteor strikes). The fossil record is undeniable unless one wants to stick their head in the ground.

And what this tells us about 2012 is that major catastrophic events have visited our planet in times past- and on numerous occasions. Some contend on regularly scheduled eras. These "scheduled events" and cycles are long in duration (26,000, 41,000, and 100,000 years long) depending upon which cycle you care to examine. Milankovitch has added much to our understanding of these cycles as well as have satellites about the Suns 11 year cycle.

So, is 2012 one of those "cyclic dates" or is it more of a prophetic nature wherein ancient civilizations received divine messages alluding to this year and more importantly as the Mayan long count calendar shows, specifically December 21, 2012. Who knows?

We will in less than four years.
